AJ HAJIAN for UBC Board of Governors
What has been done?
back
During the past year I had the privilege of working with one of the best Student Caucus'. With the huge commitment of various bodies involved across the university some positive results have been achieved:
- New on-campus housing projects have been started. These new projects will add an additional approximately 500 beds this year as well as more resources to students with family and day care facilities.
- There has been an introduction of new courses and standard requirements in Sustainability.
- In September 2009 UBC had started the academic year with 4% over-enrolment; with the hard work of various groups involved in September 2010 the over-enrolment has been decreased significantly to the normal figures.
- Despite the rough path a year ago, UBC has once again showed its true value this year with its positive improvement among both Canadian and International schools' rankings. Currently UBC is ranked internationally #30 in The Times Higher Education (UK).
- There has been an increase in the quantity and quality of resources available to international students, which lies with the UBC Strategic Plans.
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard work of all current and previous bodies involved in achieving all these great outcomes.
I should also highlight some of the items on the Student Caucus' agenda for the year and acknowledge the hard work of individual senators involved with each item:
